7th Asia-Pacific Congress of Aerospace Medicine

APFAMAFor the very first time, the Asia-Pacific Congress of Aerospace Medicine (APCAM) will be held in conjunction with ICASM. Organised under the auspices of the Asia-Pacific Federation of Aerospace Medical Associations, the 7th APCAM will bring to the Congress an expanded participation of practitioners from the Asia-Pacific region, in which aviation activities are expected to grow exponentially in the coming years. The upcoming Congress in Singapore will therefore be the ideal platform to develop deeper engagements between aerospace medicine practitioners from the West and the East.

Andre Allard Lecture

"To Be The Best: Striving for Excellence in Aviation"

The Andre Allard Lecture will be delivered by Professor Chee Yam Cheng. Through hisĀ  longstanding appointments as a Specialist Member of the Civil Aviation Medical Board of the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore and a Consultant in Medicine to the Singapore Armed Forces, Prof Chee has contributed significantly to the development of both civil and military aviation medicine in Singapore.

John Ernsting Panel on Clinical Aviation Medicine

Prof Chee Yam Cheng"Infectious Diseases and International Air Travel"

This year's John Ernsting Panel will feature topics ranging from the changing global epidemiology of communicable diseases, lessons learnt in the formulation of preparedness plans by airports and airlines, to the implementation of border control measures by national and international health organisations and aviation regulatory bodies in preventing the spread of infectious diseases through air travel.

Scientific Panel on "Crew and Passenger Health in Air Travel"

Prof Chee Yam ChengWith increasing affordability of air travel and passenger traffic, the elderly, young and those with medical conditions are also travelling more frequently and to more exotic anc remote destinations. Health risks associated with air travel can minimised. This scientific panel will cover a range of exciting topics, including the health effects of long haul flights, healthy air cabin environment, fitness-to-fly considerations in aircrew, aeromedical safety considerations in the air transporation of patients, deep vein thrombosis, and pre-travel medical preparation and vaccinations.

Technical Visits

Delegates with an interest in Civil Aviation will have the opportunity to visit the Singapore Aviation Academy's purpose-built training complex comprising state-of-the- art simulators, as well as view behind-the scene operations that make Changi Airport one of the best international airports in the world. Those with an interest in Military Aviation Medicine will have the chance to experience the capabilities of the Republic of Singapore Air Force Aeromedical Centre's suite of latest generation aviation physiology training equipment, which includes a high performance human centrifuge, a high fidelity spatial disorientation trainer, an ejection seat trainer and an integrated night vision training facility.
